BAUM CYCLES
Tucked away in a non-descript industrial estate in Geelong sits the headquarters of Baum Cycles. With three decades of experience behind the welding torch, it’s still unclear whether founder Darren Baum has any interests outside of bicycles. His dedication runs deep, with immense time and passion poured into each and every creation.
What began as a one-man operation has since evolved into a full-scale workshop, complete with an in-house paint facility, a world-class fit studio, two factory floors, and a level of coffee consumption that would rival most Melbourne cafés. The doors remain open to anyone who wishes to drop by and visit.
Baum doesn’t simply sell bikes—they provide an experience. ‘Baum’ is the German word for tree, and every rider is considered a branch of it. Family.
2025 saw the launch of the inaugural SHIMANO People’s Choice Award at SPOKEN — an initiative designed to support and celebrate Australia’s domestic frame builders. Voted entirely by the attending public at SPOKEN 2025, the Award shines a light on the creativity, craftsmanship and innovation that define our local makers.
Together with Shimano Australia, we’re proud to announce that Baum is the inaugural SHIMANO People’s Choice Award-winner.
A stunning example of precision and performance, the winning build—based on the brand’s renowned Orbis platform—features a motorsport-inspired livery executed in Baum’s upcoming LM-Line paint scheme, with LM standing for Le Mans. Drawing inspiration from iconic endurance race cars, the design fuses speed, legacy and craftsmanship, embodying the spirit of both racing and riding.
The build is completed with Shimano’s flagship Dura-Ace R9200 groupset and a pair of Dura-Ace C60 wheels — rounding out a package that’s as technically elite as it is visually striking. It’s a crowd favourite and a bold preview of Baum’s next chapter in both custom builds and paintwork.
