Like many, the dream began with a childhood BMX, but for Steve, it took real shape after school with the purchase of his first road bike. Immersed in cycling culture, he quickly made his mark—working in a local bike shop during the week and racing hard on weekends. His dedication paid off with a professional road career and the honour of representing Australia on the track. Though brief, that chapter abroad introduced him to the world of bespoke bikes and sparked a new obsession—one that gave rise to Crankstar Bespoke.

For nearly two decades, Crankstar has worked closely with some of the world’s most celebrated builders, curating award-winning, hand-built bicycles and delivering premium customer experiences rooted in cycling culture. This journey refined Steve’s expertise in frame materials, geometry, and fit. Now, with years of insight and inspiration behind him, a new direction is taking shape—one that pushes carbon fibre into new territory. Just as there’s a Sugarloaf Mountain in almost every corner of the world, this next chapter is about creating a unique path—finding a Sugarloaf of his own.
